Alandi a municipal council in Pune district of Maharashtra state of India. It is situated on the banks of Indrayani River, 25 Kms away from Pune on its eastern side on the Pune Ahmedngar highway. According to the 2001 census of India, Alandi had a population of about 17500 habitants, representated by all the caste.
Alandi is a pilgrim place famous for following historical temples/sites:- i) Samadhi of saint Dnyaneshwar, who translated Bhagwat Gita into Marathi language. ii) Vitthal Rakhumai Temple iii) Siddhabet iv) Jalaram Temple, built on the lines of jalaram temple at Virpur, Gujarat v) Dnyaneshwar wall. When ridiculed by the astride king of not having any means of travelling, Dnyaneshwar maharaj made this wall move towards the king. He was Sitting on the wall then. vi) Tomb of Sambhaji Raje Bhosle (son of Shivaji Maharaj) is in the town of Tulapur which is 6 Kms. From Alandi. Saint Dnyaneshwar in one of his verses, reveals about a prehistoric shivlinga existing in Alandi, also a collection / existence of 84 sidhas is mentioned in one of the Dnyaneshwar’s verse. The above two verses are mentioned in Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s book Haripath. The book Haripath emphasizes about the power of chanting Supreme Lord Hari’s name in this Kaluga, and is regularly recited by numerous rich and poor alike. People believe in Dnyaneshwar’s sayings and have experienced the beauty, benefits and powers of chanting Supreme Lord Hari’s name ‘HARI HARI’.
