Amroha is a small town of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is the executive headquarter of Jotiba Phule Nagar district of the state. Am means Aam or Mango and Roh is Rohu fish, which were offered to a Muslim saint upon his arrival to this town. As his teacher had advised him to settle down in a place where he would receive the offering of Aam and Rohu, the saint Sayed Husain Sharaf-Ud-Din Shahvalayat stayed in this town thereby bringing the name Amroha to it. Amroha is connected by rail with Moradabad and Delhi. By road it is connected to NH-24. The natives of Amroha are known as Amrohi (as writer Kmaal Amrohi) or Amrohvi they are mostly Muslims amounting to about 70% of the population rest 30% comprise of all other castes. The most important place of this town is the Dargah or tomb of Syed Husain Sharaf-Ud-din Shahvilayat. A miracle noted in this site is that any poisonous insects including Scorpion do not bite anybody whilst in the area of this dargha. Mangoes of more than 1200 varieties are grown in Amroha. Carpet weaving, wooden handicraft articles, pottery and small handloom cotton cloth production is common in this area. Sugarcane is produced abundantly her therefore there are many sugar mills in this area.
