Aundha Nagnath is teshil in basmati subdivision of Hingoli district lying in marathwada region of Maharashtra, India. One of the twelve Jotirlings in India is said to be the one here. The temple here is known as Naghnath Temple. Before destruction by Aurangzeb the temple was seven stories high. According to one famous pastimes of lord Shiva, when sant Dnyaneshwar, sant Visoba and other devotees were chanting bhajans praising the lord, in front of the temple. The temple priest asked them to move aside as they were obstructing the regular devotional services. Obeying the orders all the devotees shifted to the back side of the temple and continued their bhajan singing. Lord Shiva wanting to listen to the bhajans turned the whole temple to the other side hence the Nandi who is always sitting in the front of the temple is on the back side in Aunda Nagnath Temple. Aunda Nagnath is supposed to be the first (aadya) among the 12 Jotirlingas in the country. The temple also has a good carving works done on its wall. Nanded where Sikh guru Govind Singh’s ashes are buried is situated only 64 Kms from Aunda Nagnath. Gurudwara Such khand Huzur Sahib is also located in Nanded. Aunda Nagnath can be easily reached by Air, Rail or Road. The nearest airport is Aurangabad which is 210 Kms away. Chondi is nearest railhead 21 Kms away. By Road Mumbai- Aundha is 580 Kms. Aurangabad-Aundha is 210 Kms. Nagpur Aunda is 360 Kms. And Parbhani Aundha is 50 Kms. Maharashtra State Transport runs regular busses to Aundha from Nanded, Parbhani and Chondi.
