Situated in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, India Bandipur National Park is a significant reserve of Project Tiger. It is located Hangala Hubli about 19 Kms. From Gundlupet, Mysore is 80 Kms from it and Bangalore is about 220 Kms. From Bandipur. Bandipur National Park taken together with adjacent Nagarhole National Park, Mudumalai National park and Wynad Wildlife Sanctuary makes up a total protected forest area of about 2200 Sq.Kms. Three Rivers Kabini, Moyar and Nagur flows through the forest. The temperature in the region ranges from min.10 degrees in winter to max. 28 degrees in summers. The park is open round the year, though it is best visited during monsoons when the greenery is at its peak and the wildlife is in abundance. In the year 1997 the area was a breeding ground of about 70 Tigers and over 3000 Elephants. Other animals found in the area are Panther, Sambar, Wild Boar, Jackal, Squirrel, Gaur, langur and barking Deer. Jungle Fowl, Peacocks, Tits, Pigeons, Partridges Warbles and Robbins are some of the birds spotted in Bandipur. The varieties of tree in the forest are Dindal, Teak, Nerale, Matti, Sandalwood and Bamboos. Bandipur is a division of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and is about to be declared as a world heritage site.
