Beed is one of the largest cities of Indian state of Maharashtra. The city is located in central part of Maharashtra and is headquarter of the district of the same name. Called as Champavati Nagari in ancient era, Beed has a long history of rulers and kingdoms. Old monuments and buildings give the strong proof of its glorious history. Beed is a part of Marathwada Region which consists of 8 districts including Beed itself. Till 19th century entire Marathwada Region was under the rule of Nizam dynasty. Beed is also sometimes called as Bhir, the name given by Mohammed Tughlaq. The people of Beed are Marathi speaking people though Hindi language is also spoken.
Places to visit: The city of Beed is home to many historical monuments and buildings in and around it. Kankaleshwar Temple is oldest and the most beautiful structure in the city. The design of the temples is similar in many ways with some of the temples of famous Ellora caves, Aurangabad. Jama Masjid is oldest Mosque in the Beed. It was built during the rule of Mughal emperor. Having three huge domes and four minarets, the mosque is situated in the center of the town. Tomb of Shahinshaha Wali is also situated in the city. Shahinshaha Wali was a sufi of 14th century. He came to Beed during the rule of Muhhamed Tughlak. Urs (Fair) is organized here every year on the 2nd day of third month of Islamic calendar. Built in Hemadpanti style, Khandoba Temple is situated in the eastern hills near the city. It is often regarded as the symbol the city. There are two Dipmalas (tower of light) 70 feet high just front of the temple. There are figures of humans and animals carved on the towers. Historic and famous Khazana Well is situated 6 km south of the city. It is believed that the water level remains unchanged even in draughts. The city also has several Gates and a small fort. Most of them now are in bad condition. Beed also houses the tomb of Mansur Shaha. He was 18th century sufi of Suharwardi clan of sufis.

Many state run buses and private luxury buses connect it to cities like Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Nagpur and other cities of the state and the country. Nearest airport is Aurangabad Airport which is 133 km from Beed. The airport is connected by many domestic flights from Mumbai, Nagpur and other major cities.
