Bordi is a coastal village near Dahanu (a village in the Thane district of Maharashtra State). If you move upwards from Mumbai towards the North on the west coast you get this small hamlet. This was unknown up until recently. Now it has been attracting the tourists due to its tranquil clean sea shore. So, list Bordi beach to your favorites if you happen to stay in Mumbai for a long vacation. It is about 145 km drive from the big city. It is approachable via Dhahanu which is at a distance of 17 km. The place is known for Chikoo (fruit) crop. The place was under the control of Maharashtra Woods Preservation Dept for some time. Therefore most part of the natural forest has been still preserved here. The beach water does not rise above the waist level; so, one can be assured of safety at the site. Parsis live in majority here. Make time to visit some of the places nearby such as: Asavli dam near Bordi was built manually. It is a quiet place. You can enjoy the reservoir and the greenery surrounding it. Visit Bahrot Caves which a special place for the Parsi community. The ancestors of Parsis said to have hid inside these caves for thirteen years to save themselves from the Muslim invaders. One can even see the Holy Fire of the Parsi community still burning. Visit Dahanu fort which is transformed into a prison now. There is another dam site near Bordi which is known as the Depchari dam. This is also a quiet place. Make time to visit Umbergaon which is just 10 km drive from Bordi. There is a botanical garden (Kalpataru Botanical Garden) and also a studio (Vrindavan studios) in Umbergaon. The Ramayana serial (TV serial) was shot in this studio. You can reach Bordi via Mumbai. So, Mumbai is the nearest airport. You can hire a taxi from Mumbai to Bordi and can visit closest places covered on that route as you move on towards Bordi. If you are travelling by train, then, get down at Dhanu Road station which is just 3 km drive from Bordi.
