Chittorgarh is located on the banks of river Beracg and Gambhiri, after bifurcation and addition of some portion of Udaipur district the new district formed is known as Pratap Garh. The Chittor fort was independent and is said to be the largest fort in whole of Asia. The golden Quadrilateral highways project will pass through Chitoor connecting it to rest of the country. Chitoorgarh is situated on the National Highway Nos.76 and 79. By railways the city is connected with Jaipur and Jodhpur via Bhilwara, and Ajmer. Being a major railway junction of south Rajasthan Chittor Garh is connected with broad-gauge to many cities within the country like Indore, Kota, Bundi, Mhow, Ujjain, Nagda, Ratlam and Fatehabad. But still direct connection with the cities of Nagpur, Bikaner, Ahmadabad and Jabalpur is not established. There are some weekly trains to Kolkata and Hyderabad from here. The places of interest in Chittorgarh are Chittorgarh Fort, Kalika Mata Temple, Vijay Stambh, Kirti Stambh (A tower dedicated to Rishabha The first Tirhankara of Jains), Rani Padmini?s Palace and Rana Kumbha?s Palace where Rani Padmini is said to have committed Johar with other ladies of the palace in an underground celler.
