Coonoor town is a municipal town of Nilgairis district of Tamil Nadu state of India. Nilgiri tea of this place is very famous. Being located at an altitude of 1900 meters it is the second highest hill station in Tamil Nadu and is an ideal place for trekking events in the region. Conoor is the second largest town in Nilgiri hills; Ooty being the biggest is also the district headquarters. Conoor holds the Madras Regiment of Indian Army, Defense Services Staff College is located here, therefore there is a rich mixture of all the casts among the natives of Connor and many different languages are spoken here. The economy of Conoor is linked with tea trade round the year, which includes Plantations, Plucking, Processing, Packing and Auctioning of the product. The seasonal tourist business is also a major contributor in the economy. South Indian Tea Board involved in research, commerce and auction of total local production of tea is located in Conoor. Reaching Conoor is easy as a meter gauge railway line in the famous Nilgiri Mountain Railway connects it with Mettupalayam (28 Kms.) and Ooty (17 Kms). One can enjoy ?Fruit Show? organized during summers at the Sims Park a well maintained Botanical Park in Ooty. For adventures tourist trekking to Lamb?s Rock can be exciting. Other enduring trekking tracks can be from Law?s fall to Droog and Lady Canning?s seat to Dolphin seat. Other important places can be Katary Falls and Pasteur Institute, Conoor is well connected by road with Ooty (NH 46), Coimbatore, Mysore and Bangalore. Major Railway Junction is Coimbatore (80 Kms).
