Dalhousie is one of the popular tourist spots of Himachal Pradesh, India. It was established by the British Governor General in India lord Dalhousie as a summer recoiling spot. If travelling from Delhi, Dalhousie can be reached by taking a train to Pathankot or Chakki Bank, and taking a bus or a taxi from Pathankot / Chakki Bank. Nearest airport is Pathankot (75 Kms.) one flight operates to and fro from Delhi which may get cancelled due to weather. Second option is flight from Jammu (180 Kms). From Amritsar you can reach Dalhousie in 5 hours by bus.
The climate in Dalhousie is winter like all through the year. Rains are experienced during the months from June to September. Summers during May and June are warm in the day time and cold and very cold during evening and night. The weather may become very cold if it rains in winter. Snowfalls also occur during the winter months of December and January. Dalhousie is a quite hill station with no night life. It is best suited for those who want to relax and spend some nice time in nature. Best suited for long walks, Picnics and trekking. An ideal abode for the honeymooners. Places of interest here are Potato fields of Alla and natural springs of Karelanu. Other tourist spots are Dainkund Peak, Khajjiar, Bakrota Hills and Village Lohali.
Being a major tourist destination in the state of Himachal Dalhousie influences states economy in a major way. It has a large numbers of hotels which gives temporary employment to up to 10000 people every year. The place alone contributes about 3% of GDP of the state.
