Dhule, Maharashtra Travel Guide

Dhule is a city in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is the district headquarters of Dhule district which comes in Khandesh region of the state. The district shares its western border with the state of Gujarat. It is situated in the Valley of Tapi River. Panzra River (tributary of Tapi River) flows through the region. During the pre independence era, Dhule was one of the planned towns. Captain James Briggs was credited for planning the town of Dhule. In the year 1998 a new district of Nandurbar was carved out of Dhule district.

Places to see: Dhule district is home to several places of interest like temples, caves, forts etc. Established in 1935, Shri Samarth Vagdevta Mandir is a prominent temple situated near city of Dhule. It is part of Sattkaryotejjak Sabha Institute. The place is historical important as several ancient letters and manublockeds can be found there. The institute has a collection of literature works of about 300 saints. The temple is dedicated to Vagdevata, the goddess of literature. Thalner fort situated about 45 km away from the city of Dhule is another place of interest you can visit on your tour to Dhule. Located on the banks of Tapi River, the fort attracts a number of tourists round the year.

Take some time out to visit Nagpur Kokale located on the banks of Panzara River in Sakri taluka. The place is famous for Nagai Temple which is visited by thousands of devotees from far and wide. Balasana serves to be another place of attraction in the district. It is popular for several ancient caves and Hemadpanthi temples. You can also visit Ahilyapur, famous for a well constructed by the queen of Indore, Rani Ahilyabai Holkar. Methi in Sindkheda taluka is another place of interest near Dhule. The place is historical important for housing many ancient temples built during the time of Yadava kings. Do not forget to visit Devi Ekvira temple on tour to Dhule. The temple is situated on the banks of Panzara River and considered to be one of the most revered places in the region.

How to reach: Dhule is situated on Mumbai- Agra national highway (NH3) and therefore is well connected to other parts of the country. Aurangabad (148 km) serves to be the closest airbase to Dhule. If you are planning to travel by rail, Jalgaon would be the suitable place to get down. State run buses are available from other parts of the state to get to Dhule.
