Govardhan is a small town in the nagar panchyat of Mathura district in Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is about 22 Kms from Mathura on Deeg road. Reach Govardhan by Bus or private transports by road. According to 2001 census the population is little heavy on the male side who are 55% of the total population and females are only 45%. Average literacy rate is 62%. Whole of Mathura and Vrindavan is famous as Dham where the supreme lord Krishna played his favorite pastimes during his presence on this planet. Govardhan is famous for lord?s Govardhan lila, when lord Krishna had lifted the whole Govardhan mountain to save the residents from the rage of Indra the god of rains. The devotees visiting this place take a 21 Kms long Parikrama of the holy Goverdhan Hill. After Diwali in Kartik month a grand Govardhan Pooja is performed with Annakoot festival in which hundreds of Bhogas are offered to the lord Govardhan. Tones of Bhoga are offered and afterwards distributed as Prasad among the devotees. Local people individually at their homes or collectively at temples, worship Govardhan and celebrate Annakoot utsav. Other important sites in and around Govardhan are Mansi Ganga, Haridev Mandir, Daan Ghati Mandir , Mukharbind Temple, Shyam Kund, Radha Kund and others. Actually each and every square inch of land in Vrindavan is worthy of worship.
