Grishneshwar is famous for the Temple of lord Shiva. It is one of the 12 Jotirlingas of lord Shiva in India and one among the four Jotirlingas located in Maharashtra state. The other three being the ones in Aunda Nagnath, Trimbakeshwar and Bheemashanker. Grishneshwar is located about 30 Kms from Aurangabad on the Aurangabad - Dhulia Highway. It can be easily reached by government busses or many private transports round the clock. It is adjacent to world famous Ellora caves. The temple was reconstructed by grandfather of Chattarapati Maharaj Shivaji Maloji Raje Bhosle in the 16Thcentury. And again by Ahilyabai Holkar in 18Thcentury. Ahilyabai also renovated Kashi Vishwanath temple at Baners and Vishnupad mandir at Gaya.
