Guna is a city in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The city serves as the headquarters of Guna district. Located in the north-eastern part of Malwa plateau in Madhya Pradesh, Guna was earlier a part of ancient Avanti Kingdom established by Chand Pradyota Mahesena. In the early 18th century it was captured by Ramoji Rao Scindhia and thereafter it remained under the Gwalior kingdom until the independence of India. The city of Guna is situated on the banks of Parbati River and is known for many places of interest situated in and around it.
Places of interest: Bajrangarh Fort is a prime attraction of Guna. Situated just 8 km away from the center of the city, Bajrangarh Fort is much frequented tourist site. The fort is believed to be built by Maratha rulers in 1775. Moti Mahal, Rang Mahal and Gunnery are parts of the fort complex. The fort is also known as Jharkon and houses a well within its premises. Bishbhuji temple is popular temple situated in the district of Guna. Perched on a small hilltop, the temple houses an idol of Goddess Durga. Huge towering Deep Stambha (lamp pillar) situated there can be seen from a long distance. The temple hosts an annual fair on the occasion of Durgashtami which comes in the month of Oct-Nov. The fair lasts for nine days and witnesses thousands of people thronging there from across the state and other parts of the country as well. Guna is also home to a Jain temple believed to be built by Pada Shaha, a Jain saint. The temple contains red stone idols of several Jain Tirthankaras. Besides, a number of beautifully carved stone sculptures can also be found there. Kumbhraj, Aron, Chahaura, Raghogarh and Bandha are other places of attraction you can visit around Guna.
How to reach: Raja Bhoj Airport of Bhopal (188 km) is the nearest airport to Guna. The airport is well connected by regular flights to other major cities of India. From Bhopal you can hire a taxi or car to reach the city of Guna. Guna railway station falls on Kota-Bina rail route and is connected well to Gwalior (about 230km from Guna), Ujjain (260 km), Indore (290 km) and many other part of the state. State Transport buses are also available to the city form many parts of the state.
