Hajo in Guwahati in the Indian state of Assam is a very old pilgrimage center for Buddhists, Muslims and Hindus alike. It is 24 Kms from the capital of Assam in kamrup district. There are many temples in Hajo the most famous one being the temple of Hayagriva Madhava Temple. The other famous temples are Ganesha Temple, the Kedareswara Temple and a Shiva Temple. Located on the Monikut Hill Hayagriva Madhav Temple was built in stone in the year 1583. The man-Horse incarnation of lord Vishnu, Hayagriva is the main deity in the temple. The temple is a massively designed structure; Rows of Elephants are carved as the specimen of Assam?s art on the walls of the temple. Medhab Pukhuri is a big pond near the temple. Janmastami, Bihu and Doul festivals are celebrated in the temple.
