Hingoli is a city of Indian state of Maharashtra. It is headquarter of the district of the same name ‘’Hingoli District’’. The city is situated in the Marathwada region of the state. There are eight districts including Hingoli in this region. Marathi is the native language here and Hindi is also spoken by some. Hingoli was earlier the taluka place of Parbahni district. The Hingoli district is situated very close to Vidarbha, another region of the Maharashtra state.
How to reach: rail and road connects the city to other parts of the state and the country. Hingoli Deccan is the railway station of Hingoli and many trains links it to other cities and towns of the state and the country. Many state run buses and other private vehicles like cars, luxury buses etc are available from other cities to reach here. The closest airport is Nanded Airport which is about 80km away from the Hingoli. The airport is well connected by many flights to major cities of the state and the country.
Places of interest: Hingoli mainly houses religious places in and around it. Aundha Nagnath, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, is situated here. These twelve Jyotirlingas are very important pilgrimage centers and Hingoli is therefore is one most important pilgrimage centers for the Hindus. According to mythology this temple was built by Dharmraj, eldest of Pandavas,. The temple has very beautiful carvings. It is built in Hemadpanthi style of architecture. Thousands of pilgrims visit this temple on the occasion Shivaratri. The temple of Tulja Bhavani Devi is another important religious place in Hingoli. The temple of Mallinath Digamber Jain is prominent religious place for the Jains. The statue of Lord Mallinath is about 300 year old. Many people of Jain community come from other parts of the country. Hingoli district is also home to the birth place of saint Namdev. He was born in 1270 AD in the village of Narsi of the Hingoli district. Fair is organized every year in his memory. Followers of saint Namdev from Punjab and other parts of the country always visit this place.
Other details: all major festivals are celebrated in Hingoli. On the occasion of Dasara festival a fair is organized every year. It is one oldest fairs in HingoIi celebrated for about 160 years.
