Jhansi situated on the banks of river Betwa was originally a walled city, it expanded around the fort which is built on a huge rock beside the river. The central government project of National Highways passes through Jhansi. Both North-South Highway from Kashmir to Kanyakumari as well as East-West highway from Mumbai to Kolkata have a crossing at Jhansi, so there has been an impulsive run towards transportation and property growth in the city. An Airport is also under plan. Jhansi had a population of about 5 lacs inhabitants in2001. Rich in minerals the area of Jhansi is covered by rocky spread, the land rises to the south western parts of the district. The basic crops of the region are pulses, wheat, peas and oilseeds. The agriculture depends mainly on monsoon rainfalls. Now a grand channel scheme the Rajghat Canal is planned for the region which will provide required water for irrigation.

The temperatures in Jhansi is extreme it ranges from minimum 4 degrees centigrade in mid-December to a peak of 47 degrees in May. The average annual rainfall is about 900 mm.

The city is very well connected by railways and Roadways to the major destinations across India. It has direct Trains to all the four major metropolitan cities of India, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and other stations in all the four directions.
