What to See:
Kannur has some historical monuments to display. These were built during the Portuguese time. Prominent among them is the St.Angelo’s Fort. It was built by the first Portuguese Viceroy. The fort is loacetd at about 3 km from the Kannur city.
Visit the Arackal Kottaram, the palace of Arackal Rulers. It is a private property, but the palace is open for visitors. This is built in the Islamic style.
Visit the Moppila Bay, a place for water sports and boating. If you want to have a beautiful sunset view, visit the Azhikkal Ferry point. This point is situated near Azhikode, a place 10 km away from Kannur.
Countless number of temples are there in and around the city. The Kottiyoor Utsavam that takes place in the Kottiyoor Vadakkeswaram temple is a popular temple festival of the region.
Visit Thalassery town which is nearby. The town has a fort belonging to the British period. It was a base for the Christian missionaries.
