Kurukshetra is a prominent city presently placed in the state of Haryana in India. Kurukshetra is famous since Vedic days especially because of it being the battlefield for the war Mahabharata. It was here that the lord Sri Krishna delivered the sermons of Srimad Bhagvat Gita to his friend and Devotee Arjuna. Named after the king Kuru who was the predecessor of Kauravas and Pandavas, the city is also known as Dharmakshetra or the Holy City. A village named Thanesar or Sthaneswar meaning a place of God is located nearby, which is famous for its Sthaneshwar Mahadev Temple. The city of Kurukshetra was known all over the world by the times of King Harshavardhan. It is recorded that the Chinese traveler Hieun Tsang visited Tanesar then. Later king Ashoka the Great made it a popular place of learning across the globe. Brahma Sarovar, Sannihit Sarovar, Jyotisar (the place where lecture of Srimad Bhagvat Gita was delivered to Arjuna by the lord Sri Krishna) and Jhansa are some places of importance in and around Kurukshetra. Good rail, and Road network connects Kurukshetra with other cities of Haryana and the rest of country as well. Nearest airport is Chandigarh (90 Kms.) and New Delhi (160 Kms).
