Manmad is a city in the Nashik district of Maharashtra State. It is a big city in the Nashik district. The city provides ample storage facilities to the Food Corporation of India (there are many godowns belonging to the Food Corporation in Manmad) and Petroleum companies like Bharat Petroleum and the Hindustan Petroleum have set up their offices in Manmad. The city hosts one of the largest markets for the onion crop. Onions bought by the local farmers are again sold in Mumbai. Manmad serves as a center for the onion traders.
Manmad also serves as major railway junction to reach other cities like Aurangabad, Shirdi and Nashik. Devotees of Shirdi Baba will have to book their railway tickets from Manmad. Manmad happens to be a major destination to reach Shirdi. All major trains connecting cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, and Tirupathi halt at Manmad. Even trains belonging to the Konkan Railways pass through this city. The Central Railway Engineering workshop is there in Manmad city. Manmad has two places of interest. One is the Ankai caves and the other one is Hadbichi Shendi. Ankai caves (and also forts) are situated in the Vindhya hills range (Satpuda-Chandwad range). A temple of the sage Agasthya is also there. Hadbichi Shendi is a small hill peak resembling the shape of ‘thumbs up’.
