Mansa, Punjab Travel Guide

Mansa is a city in the Mansa district of Punjab. The city lies in the Malwa region of Punjab. The city shares its borders with Bhathinda, Barnala, Sangrur (district) and Haryana State. Agriculture is the main source of economy here and cotton happens to be the main crop. It would be a feast for eyes during the cotton harvest season. White cotton on the either side of roads would look like clouds. Mansa has not developed in terms of industrialization. So, much of the countryside has been left untouched. Mansa was formed into a district only recently (in April 1992) splitting it from the Bhathinda districtMansa has been identified as a backward area by the state Government and the city lacks basic infrastructure (education, hospitals, roads and other civic amenities). The city is further divided into three parts (tehsils) and they are Budhlada, Mansa, Sardulgarh. Budhlada, once used to host the army recruitment center. It is at a distance of 17 km from Mansa. Ghagger River has been a major source of water for the city which passes through Sardulgarh. The soil of this region is sandy and because of plain area the region fits well for the cotton crop. Summers are very hot in this region; mercury may reach up to 45 degrees. Winters become very cold. Mansa is just about 60 km from Harike Lake. Harike Lake is a largest freshwater lake in Northern India. Mansa happens to be the nearest railway station to reach Harike. Mansa can be reached via Delhi by air. It is well connected by road to all other cities. Regular passenger trains run from Delhi station to Mansa.
