Nagarhole National Park is situated in Mysore district of Karnataka State of India. It is about 100 Kms from Mysore and placed at the north western side of Bandipur National Park separated by Kabini reservoir. The park holds a rich forest spread, many water streams, valleys and waterfalls. It has a good population of Tiger, Indian Bison and Elephants. The park is spread over 643 Sq. Kms area and including adjacent Bandipur National Park (870 Sq.Kms.), Mudumalai National Park (320 Sq. Kms.) and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (344 Sq. Kms) it forms a total protected forest area of 2183 Sq. Kms. The park along with Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and Western Ghats has been selected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The forest cover mainly includes Rosewood Teak, Silver Oak and Sandalwood. Full of wild life species the forest is home to Tigers, Bisons, Elephants, Hyaena, Spotted Deers, and Jackls etc. Many reptiles and over 270 species of birds are found in Nagarhaole. The park is closed during monsoons and mating season of animals. Otherwise the park is open from 6 am To 6 pm on all days. A good arrangement for staying is available at Murkal Guest Houses and near RFO office inside the park. Forest department organizes forest safaris twice a day in the mornings as well as evenings. Special concessional tours are organized by forest department for the school children.
