Nahan is a beautiful town situated in Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is main place of the district of Sirmaur. It is nestled with green majestic mountains and one instantly gets fascinated with the surrounding beauty the moment he puts his foot in Nahan. It is an ideal place for nature lover. The history of the town goes back to 1621 when it was established by the king Karan Prakash. The name of the town is said to be derived from an incidence happened to the king. When king was trying to hunt lion a sage came across said him Nahar (don?t kill). Thus town got its name and it flourished under the rule of the king. Rani Tal is famous tourist spot in Nahan. Rani Tal means lake of queen. The lake was earlier earmarked for the royal family but as the time passed it became a major tourist spot. The lake is beautifully decorated with lush green lawns and also offers boating facility to the tourists. Suketi Fossil Park is another place of attraction in Nahan. The park is famous world over for its showcasing Fossils and fiber models of extinct species that one time lived on this place. This is the place in India where the largest fossil has been found. The place is often visited by scholars and students alike for doing research about the fossil find. Renuka Wildlife Park is another interesting place one can visit. It is small in size but it attracts many tourists as it houses various animals and offers jungle safaris also. Simbalwara Wildlife Sanctuary is another sanctuary near the Nahan. It is also visited by many tourists. Jaganath temple and Ranzor Palace are other places to be seen in Nahan. Many state run buses and other private vehicle like cars available from Chandigarh and other cities and towns of the state and the country. Amabala railway station is nearest rail head to it. It is about 100km from Nahan and is well linked to Delhi and other cities and towns of the country. Deharadun airport is nearest airbase to Nahan. It is about 65 km away while Chandigarh airport is 100 km away and is well connected by several flights to other major cities of India. Nahan is situated at the altitude of 950 m and temperature of the region varies from 35? to 40? in summer and 7? to 17? in winter. It can be visited any time of the year except the month of January when the weather is freezing.
