Nanded is a big city in Indian state of Maharashtra. It is place of district of the same name and falls in Marathwada region of the state. Nanded was formerly known as Sachkhand. It is popularly known as an important Sikh pilgrimage center in India. Tenth spiritual leader of Sikh, Guru Govind Singh visited the city in 1708 AD and stayed there for the rest of his life. It was he who made Guru Granth Sahib as the eternal Guru of the Sikhs. There is monument built in his memory at the place where he breathed his last. There is also a Gurudwara known as Shri Huzur Abchalnagar Sachkhand Gurudwara. Nanded is visited by thousands of Sikh pilgrims from across the world.
Nanded also houses other place of interest and religious importance in and around it. Renuka Devi Temple is one of them. The temple is eight hundred years old. It is located at Mahur and believed to be built by Yadava king of Devgiri. Nanded fort is another place of attraction located just 4 km from the railway station of the city. The fort is in ruined condition and surrounded by Godavari River on three sides. The fort has well maintained garden and it is visited by many tourists. The town of Kandhar which falls in Nanded district is famous for its Fort. The fort is situated in the center of the town. It is believed to be built by Rashtrakuta King Krishna the third of Malkhed. Parli-Vaijnath, Unkeshwar, Shahid Masjid are other place of importance near Nanded.
Rail and road connect the city of Nanded to other parts of the state and the country. Several trains connect it directly to Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Amritsar, Delhi, Allahabad and many other cities and towns of the city and the country. Nanded Airport was well connected by flights to Nagpur, Mumbai and Aurangabad, but the air services of Vayudoot airlines is not operational now hence the air connection to Nanded is broken for now. Many state run buses and other private vehicles like cars and luxury buses are available from many other cities and towns of the state and the country.
