Nandurbar is a city and place of district of the same name in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is situated in northern most part of Khandesh region of the state. It shares it borders with Gujarat on its north and west and Madhya Pradesh on its north east. Earlier it was a part of Dhule district. It was separated from Dhule and was made a separate district in 1998. Ahirani is widely spoken language in the region. The language is slightly different from Marathi and Bhilli. Marathi, Bhilli, Hindi and Guajarati are other language spoken here. Toranmal is place of tourist attraction near Nandurbar. It is the second coolest hill station in the state of Maharashtra. Toranmal is situated just 40 km from Nandurbar. It is also the second highest peak in the state. The place is popular picnic spot and offers picturesque views of beautiful surrounding nature. Toranmal has fascinating lake which is full beautiful flowering lotuses. The lake is known as Yashwant Lake and is frequently visited by tourists. Unapdev is another interesting place to visit. It is situated in Shahada Tahsil of the district of Nandurbar. It is famous picnic spot and popular for its hot water source. The water flows through the cow?s mouth shaped structure throughout the year. Asthamba is important place of worship situated in Akrani Tahsil of Nandurbar district. A tribal fair, known as Asthamba Fair, of northwest Maharashtra and south Gujarat is held here. The fair is organized during the festival of Diwali every year. According to mythology Asthamba is a son of Dronacharya, a character of Mahabharata. Nandurbar is well linked by road and rail to other parts of the state and the country. Nandurbar railway station is well connected to other cities and towns of country. Many state run buses and other private vehicles are available from Aurangabad, Nasik, Mumbai, Surat and other cities and towns of the state and the country. Ahmadabad Airport is the nearest airbase to Nandurbar and is about 253 km from it while Mumbai international airport is about 290 km from it and is well linked by many flights to other major cities of India and other countries.
