Puttaparthi is a town in the Ananthapura district of Andhra Pradesh. It was the abode of the spiritual Guru Sri Satya Sai Baba. Baba expired on the 24th of April in the year 2011. Satya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi is believed to be the incarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba. Satya Sai Baba has many followers from across the world. Puttaparthi hosts well maintained medical institution run by the Satya sai Chaitable trust and great many educational institutions. These institutions are known for giving free facilities to the poor and helpless. Puttaparthi is a small village. Most part of it has been occupied by the Sai Baba Ashram campus which is also known as the Prashanthi Nilayam. This is a constructed township consisting of modern amenities, and Baba?s Ashram lies inside this premises. Baba?s Ashram is the major place of interest in Puttaparthi. It used to be crowded during when Baba was alive. The Ashram (Prashanthi Nilayam) consists of temples, community halls, meditation halls, museum, and Samadhi of Baba?s parents. Sai Kulwanth hall (Baba used to give Darshan here) and the Poornachandra Auditorium (meant for bhajans and meditation) are the two well known halls in the Ashram. Ashram runs by the Volunteers help. Puttaparthi can be reached via Bangalore, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The city has its own airport though very fewer flights ply. One should get prior information regarding the flight schedule. The railway station at Puttaparthi has been a recent one. It would be convenient for the train commuters to get down at Dharmavaram station (45 km) and hire a taxi from there. Puttaparthi is well connected by NH-7. You can hire private taxis from Bangalore city (156 km).
