Rupnagar is a city and district in Punjab state of India. Formerly known as Ropar, the other cities in Ropar district are Kurali, Morinda, Chamkaur Sahib and Anandpur Sahib. Earlier Mohali was a part of Ropar but it has become a separate district now. The Bhakra Dam in Nangal town lies in Rupnagar district border with Himachal Pradesh on its Northern side. The Rupnagar town lies on banks of Sutlej River. At the foothills of Shivalik Mountain Ranges. The district lies in the Patiala Division of Punjab State and is about 42 Kms from Chandigarh the state capital of Punjab. The climate here is generally dry during winters and summers with good rainfalls (up to 774mm) during June to mid September. The temperature ranges between 4?n winter to 45?n summers. National Highway No.21 passes through the city and connects the city to other towns of the state and the country.
