Sangrur is a district town in the state of Punjab in India. It located at crossing of the roads to Delhi from Ludhiana and Bathinda to Patiala, about 80 Kms from Ludhiana and 59 Kms from Patiala. It falls on the Ludhiana - Jakhal Railway line. Earlier Sangrur was entirely of rural set up, but now it has become an educational and International business destination. The town is known for its Cow Shelter organization named Punjab Gaushala Mahasangh which is the controlling body of more than 400 Gaushalas across Punjab. It is a Non Government Organisation which runs on the donations received by the people. The office bearers work with this organization on honorary appointments and never put Gaushala money for office and self expenditures. Many notable people of Punjab politics belong to this place (Two Chief ministers of Punjab). The Indian freedom fight activist Udham Singh who shot General Michael O?Dwyer (to avenge the massacre of Jallianwala Bagh) Belongs to Sangrur. Many Gurudwaras and temples are of tourist interest in Sangrur. Banasar Bagh in the northern part of the city is a famous picnic spot. The climate of Sangrur is Dry and hot in summers, and very cold in winters, the rainfall from July to September is average. Ideal time to visit is from January to March when the weather is pleasant and one can enjoy festivals of Lohri and Basant Panchmi.
