Vrindavan lies in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh in India, The area is broadly known as Vraj / Braj region. The Vrindavan town is just 10 Kms from Mathura which is the birth place of Lord Krishna. The town and the region surrounding it is famous for its Radha Krishna Temples as it is the place where lord Krishna did his childhood pastimes during his visit to this material planet earth about 5000 years ago. Along with Vrindavan other small villages placed around it are also very famous, like Gokul where Krishna spent his early childhood, Raval the birth place of Shrimati Radha Rani the consort of Lord Sri krishna, Barsana where Radha Rani lived, Govardhan the place where Krishna lifted Govardhan mountain to save people of Brij from wreath of god of rains Indra. Actually every small place of Vrindivan is filled with the pastime memories of Krishna. These holy pastime sites of Vrindavan were lost as the time passed after Sri Krishna left this planet for his heavenly Abode 5000 years ago. In about 1500 A.D. Lord appeared as a Devotee incarnation as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu with a fair skin tone like Radha Rani. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu put his six Goswamis (Roop, Sanatan, Jeeva, Gopal Bhatt, Raghunath Bhatt and Gopal Das Goswamis) for re establishing the lost sites of the various ancient temples of Shri Krishna and also the lost sites of his divine pastimes in Vrindavan. Thanks to these devoted souls we today have all the places of Sri Krishna pastimes available for us to devote to and get blessed in our pursuit of real devotional service to Sri Krishna.
