Washim is recently elevated to district by the state of Maharashtra in India earlier it was in the Akola district of the state. According to scholars, in Treata Yuga Washim was a part of Dandak Aranya / Dandak jungle and was the penance place of vatsa rish where many Demi Gods came to bless him. During modern times in 18Th century Washim along with Balapur was considered as a center for quality fabric cloth. During Peshwa rule a mint was also established in Washim. Washim municipality was established wayback in 1869. The places of interest in the town are Padmatirtha, Rama temple, Balaji Temple, Madhyameshvara Temple, Godeshvara Temple, Jain temples and Narayan Maharaja Temple . According to old scriptures there were 108 Kundas or Tanks in the town, some of those can still be identified in the region. Washim is connected to other places in the state by roads and rail network. It lies on Purna ? Khandwa section of South Central Railway (SCR) in its Nanded divison.
