Yercaud is a hill station in the Tamil Nadu State. It is situated at an altitude of 4970ft above the sea level in the Shevaroys hill range. The city lies in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu. Mostly coffee and oranges are grown here. The city with natural water lakes and water cascades invites the visitor. It works out cheaper in Yercaud if you compare the city with other hill stations like Ooty and Kodaikanal. So, it is often known as the poor man?s Ooty. You can reach Yercaud via Salem. Salem is the nearest railway station. Salem is well connected to other cities by road and railways. You can hire taxis from Salem which is about 35 km drive from Salem city. If you are travelling by air then you can choose any of the following airports as your destination: Trichy, Coimbatore and Bangalore. Trichy would be the nearest point which is about 163 km from Yercaud. Being a hill station Yercaud offers good range of picnic spots for the visitors. Waterfalls at Killiyur, Yercaud Lake (also known as Big Lake, Emerald Lake), Lady?s seat, Pagoda Point, Bear?s cave and Heaven?s edge are the points to be covered. The Servaroyan temple is the highest view point in Yercaud. A panoramic view of the Yercaud town could be viewed from this point. The city hosts a botanical garden in which Orchids are grown mainly. The Garden would be closed on Saturdays and Sundays. The Fruits like orange, jackfruit and guava; spices like black pepper, cinnamon and cardamom are grown here. Yercaud is pleasant all through the year.
